Definition of Cyberbullying:

According to the National Crime Prevention Council Cyberbullying takes place through the internet and through text messages sent via cell phones. Cyberbullying is similar to other types of bullying. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services anti-bullying website bullying is defined as intentional, aggressive, repeated, verbal social or physical behavior directed at a person or group of people. According to Wikipedia Cyberbullying is using information technology to deliberately and repeatedly harm or harass other people in a hostile manner. Webster dictionary defines cyberbullying as the electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person that is often done anonymously. Webster dictionary defines bullying is to frighten, hurt, or threaten a smaller or weaker person: to act like a bully towards (someone) to cause (someone) to do something by making threats or insults or by using force.

Some examples of Cyber-Bullying online are:

  • >Sending someone mean or threatening text or instant messages.
  • >Creating websites that make fun at another person and include stories, cartoons, pictures or jokes that ridicule.
  • >Sending embarrassing information about one person to others.
  • >Breaking into a person’s email or instant message account and sending out cruel or untrue information about that person while pretending to be that person referred to as cyberbullying by proxy.
  • >Using the website to send out pictures of a person and asking peers to rate that person on their looks.
